Vitamin D For Migraine
Vitamin D is everyone’s favorite little ray of sunshine for a reason - it might play a big role in the treatment of migraine!
This vitamin has been studied a LOT - and has more often than not been shown to help reduce number of migraine days, reduce length of episodes, and reduce pain levels (yes please!). In a recent 2020 study, it was even shown to reduce levels of inflammation in the body.
The best source of Vitamin D is from the good ol’ sun, but if you’re severely deficient or don’t go outside much, a supplement might be your best bet.
This latest study used 2000 IU (international units, the standard measurement of vitamin D) every day for 12 weeks, but it’s honestly a good idea to work with someone like a dietitian to help you figure out a good supplement routine specifically for YOU!
Interested in peeping the study? It was published in Neurological Sciences and titled “Vitamin D3 might improve headache characteristics and protect against inflammation in migraine: a randomized clinical trial”.
