Why Migraine?
For those of you who have followed me for a little bit, you may be wondering why the new focus on nutrition and migraine. If you know me in real life, you're probably not surprised at all by this new focus because odds are I've canceled plans on you at some point due to one =D
I went back to school in 2015 with the intention of becoming a Registered Dietitian and opening my own private practice, and I've been searching this entire time for the people I'm meant to serve and where I belong in the world of nutrition. Silly me, I should have just looked at myself - I've had migraine since grade school, and I am just now in a healthy enough place mentally where I can begin to experiment with treating it with nutrition.
Mental health struggles and chronic migraine have been part of my story for as long as I can remember, and they are issues I know intimately. But while I've been very honest about my journey with depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, I've distanced myself from migraine for a long time because owning that it is part of my story means accepting that it's real, and that has always felt too scary. The pain gets so intense and overwhelming sometimes that I'm afraid it will never go away, a fear I'm sure people who have migraine can relate too all too well. But I know that by accepting it, I can begin the process of healing, and then, I can help others heal as well.
So long story short, this is why I am dedicating myself to this path, and why it feels so damn good - because people with migraine are severely under-served and under-represented, and we need help! Having migraine is hard as hell, but it makes us strong and motivated to find answers.
I'm excited to cap off my education focusing on nutrition interventions for migraine and other brain health challenges, and in just a few short months I'll be seeing clients of my own online and, eventually, here locally in Georgia. Stay tuned!
